Billy Shakespeare: Experience the first coming of William Shakespeare
VoorheesFilms opens Billy Shakespeare at the Misty Moon in London May 12 at 8 p.m. and it continues each Wed-Sat through May 27. £5 RSVP
Imagine that Lady Macbeth never seduced her husband into killing the king; Hamlet never lusted for his Mother, and Iago never deceived the Moor of Venice into murdering the innocent Desdemona. William Shakespeare, the world’s greatest playwright, never existed… until now.
Our Modern Bard is caught in a love triangle of confused sexuality, cross dressing, mistaken identity, and bedroom trysts. Does Shakespeare love his lusty best friend, Wilma Hartford, who’s also a drag queen, or his lovely long-time girlfriend Anne Hathaway. This battle to understand Shakespeare’s true heart is a comedic romp. All the while, Shakespeare peddles his screenplays in Hollywood. Renaissance and modern sensibilities clash when an all-male stage version of Macbeth and the misogynistic low-budget film The Taming of the Shrew open simultaneously. The combustion makes “The Bard,” played by comedic genius Jason D. Johnson, the most controversial screenwriter in Hollywood.
This “modern comedy of errors” makes its world premiere in London May 12 at The Misty Moon, behind the Ladywell Tavern, and continues each night through May 27; doors 7:45 p.m., screening 8 p.m. at The Misty Moon Gallery, Ladywell Tavern, 80 Ladywell, London. 07960 993 737; Deborah.firstname.lastname@example.org. email@example.com £5, www.billyshakespearethemovie.com RSVP.
